Associate Vice President Shared Service Centers. Business and Financial Services in Atlanta, GA

Oversees a number of Research Administration Service Centers that will provide a large portion of the pre- and post-award researchadministration support functions to faculty across campus. The initial set of responsibilities include visioning, planning, and rollout of service centers across multiple departments and schools. Responsibilities include oversight of approx 8-12 servicecenters, comprising of up to approx 150 staff. The AVP will report to the university's Vice President of Research Administration,with very close working ties to the Vice President of Finance. The AVP will participate in and help lead planning for the pilot and campuswide roll out of research administration service centers including assisting with finalizing roles and responsibilities, job descriptions,and helping develop standard operating procedures, service level expectations, metrics for measuring performance and effectiveness on thekey dimensions of service, cost effectiveness, compliance, and accuracy. The AVP will coordinate and form effective and strong relationshipswith key stakeholders across all schools and units involved in research. He/She will oversee a number of shared service teams performingfinancial and administrative oversight of research activities for faculty and be accountable for the successful delivery of pre-award,in-award, and post-award functions that are housed in the shared service centers. In conjunction with key stakeholders, the AVP willidentify, recruit, develop and retain talented leaders for each shared service center and participate in identification/recruitment of othershared service center personnel, as necessary. In conjunction with key stakeholders and service center mangers, the AVP will overseestaffing levels, competency, consistency, etc. of the shared service centers and ensure that staff members are adequately trained,developed, and evaluated and that all shared service centers are high performing and meeting the needs of faculty, departments, and schools.He/she will take action to improve performance of service centers, including service center managers and staff, when necessary and makeon-going improvements in service levels, operational measurements and practice efficiency. The AVP will perform related responsibilities asrequired.A master's degree, preferably in Business, and ten to fifteen years of background, including several years of managingteams of employees and processes in a related complex workplace atmosphere OR an equivalent combination of education, training and background.Background with shared service centers or similar service oriented structures preferred and preference will be given to those who havedemonstrated successful performance in such an environment. Some preference will be given to individuals with familiarity with researchadministration background, including but not limited to proposal development/submission, grant and contract servicing, and post-awardfinancial management in a research intensive university, academic health center, contracting organization, or other research environment.Knowledge of relevant OMB Circulars, sponsored award accounting, and PeopleSoft ERM systems preferred. Other desirable requirementsinclude proven expertise to manage multiple teams effectively; background in process development and redesign, including leading change andinfluencing stakeholders to bring about process improvements; proven expertise to build relationships across multiple constituency groups;demonstrated results oriented performance, and proven expertise to communicate effectively with senior leaders.
